Alexander Stein is the Founder of Dolus Advisors, a New York-based psychodynamic management consultancy that advises CEO’s and Boards in enterprise challenges involving leadership, culture, governance, risk, and other institutional matters with complex psychological underpinnings. Drawing on his background as a licensed and clinically experienced psychoanalyst, Stein leverages deep expertise in human decision-making and behavior both to advise leaders across a broad array of industries as well as in wide-ranging multidisciplinary partnerships and collaborations. Additional practice areas include providing intelligence analysis and actionable defense and recovery solutions in cases of multijurisdictional fraud, grand corruption, kleptocracy, and executive malfeasance; architecting and deploying psycho-socially sophisticated cybersecurity programs; and ensuring technologies that assume autonomous decision-making functions in human affairs are ethically and socially responsible by design and in practice. 

He sits on the advisory boards of several technology and cybersecurity firms and social-mission enterprises, and is also a principal in the Boswell Group, a consortium of psychiatrists and psychoanalysts working outside clinical practice to deliver psychological expertise in organizational contexts.

Stein is a widely published and cited thought leader whose work is regularly featured in the business press and varied industry publications, including Fast Company, INC, Financier Worldwide, Risk & Compliance, the Wall Street Journal, the FCPA Blog, among many others. His chapter titled “Innovations and Strategic Applications in the Psychology of Fraud” was recently included in the 2023 ICC FraudNet Global Report on Fraud and Asset Recovery. A former monthly columnist for FORTUNE Small Business Magazine, CNN/Money, and CBS Business News covering the psychology of leadership and entrepreneurship, he is currently a regular contributor to the Forbes Leadership Strategy Channel writing on the psychology of decision-making and unintended consequences in organizations and society, and is a sought-after podcast and webinar guest, and conference keynote speaker and panelist.

Stein is a graduate and senior member of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP) in New York where he teaches a seminar to advanced candidates on psychoanalytic writing. His work has been published in many of the field’s premiere peer review journals and he has presented at conferences and symposia internationally. His essay “Psychoanalysis in the Public Sphere: A Call for Taking Analytic Thinking, Writing and Action into the Broader World” published in Psychoanalytic Perspectives in 2020 proposes ways psychoanalysis can be leveraged as a powerful tool for positive change and influence at scale, in addition to being an effective treatment method for patients, and calls for psychoanalysts to be savvier and more inventive in engaging in contemporary society.
